Any help with this silver footed bowl would be appreciated. Measures 13cm in diameter and stands about 9cm high and weighs about 220 grams. It is marked under the foot with I.I in a rectangular cartouche - the I.I almost looking like a 1.1. The rest of the hallmarks are on the side of the bowl and are rubbed beyond recognition. The only vaguely readable one has the remnants of a top of a crown showing. The only mark that resembles this that I can find is a 1779 mark for Joseph Jackson, that my copy of Jacksons notes on a dish ring. The piece certainly looks like a 1770s piece, although the bright cut crest may make it 1780s, but it doesn't look particularly Irish, and the tip of the crown could be either a crowned harp or a crowned leopards head - or any other crowned hallmark for that matter.
Would also be interested to know this bowl's purpose - looks wrong for sugar - could it have been a finger bowl? or have some ecclesiastical use?
Any thoughts appreciated
Regards Frank
