Hi

I would like some help in identifying some hallmarks for a spoon i have.




The maker mark doesnt have a full stop in the middle and this is the part which i am having trouble finding.

There is some letters written on the handle which im not sure if it means anything but i have included it just incase.



If someone could confirm any part for me i would be very greatful.

This appears to be Edinburgh 1866 by the maker James Wright.

What is the length of the spoon, will be able to tell you then if it is a tea spoon, table spoon etc

The pattern on the spoon is King's pattern.

That will be a teaspoon.

The mark 'JW' in this shape (Heraldic Shield 4C) is recorded as John Wilkie 2nd who was registered from 1841 to 1878.

Not to imply you or techsol dont know about this sort of thing but which person is this hallmark for.
just abit confused as i have been given two names of possible makers.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm sure you will appreciate that there are many JW's marks registered with the Edinburgh Assay Office, and at times an attribution can be difficult, if not confusing. In this case the maker of your spoon was John Wilkie II.
