900 Silver Footed Bowl - Rooster and Crown Marks

Post by odsey »

Hi there!

I have a wonderful 900 silver bowl, and my first impression of it was Mexican (I have a few other bowls by Sanborns which have near-identical floral motifs), however I'm unfamiliar with the hallmarks! I even had my silversmith look at it, and he came to the same conclusion that I did - that it's most likely Mexican or South American. The piece is stamped 900, and has a hallmark of a rooster, and a crown.

I have a few more photographs of the piece here - http://imgur.com/a/f2CZL#0

::::: I have a similar sized bowl with an "English Lion" theme and the lions are holding circular loops that are handles, the loops and the lions have a very similar "heavy textured silver" kind of look that are very similar to your dragons, but it is only marked 0.900 so that doesn't really narrow it down but at least I am pretty sure it is the same maker :::::::::::::::::

:::::: I was thinking Colombia based on some of the other similar 0.900 stamps that I have seen ::::::::::::
