18 Ct. GOLD TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE - A GIFT TO THE BRIDE OF KING FAROUK

Image

Solid Gold Tea Service Sells British Tableware

To commemorate the 650th anniversary of the English Hall Mark, Adie Bros., British jeweler, produced this tea and coffee service, which contains more than $25,000 worth of 18 carat gold. Adie’s merchandising representative in the U.S., Rita Rotheim (left), took the set, guarded by a London bobby, on a promotional tour across the country. In stops at 80 jewelers in major U. S. cities, the tour sold more than $500,000 worth of Adie products—in addition to the tea service itself, which brought $100,000 as an anonymous gift to Narriman Sadek, bride of Egypt’s King Farouk.

STERLING SILVER SMITH-CORONA TYPEWRITER

THE VAN HEUSEN CHARLES COMPANY, LEADING ALBANY JEWELLERS, DISPLAY THE NEW STERLING SILVER SMITH-CORONA

Image

This beautiful window display is typical of many which have been secured in cities throughout the United States, showing that even fine jewelry stores regard the silver machine as a beautiful gift object as well as a window display feature of peculiar attraction. So many silver machines have been sold during the holiday season by typewriter dealers to individuals for gift purposes that the silversmiths, the famous Gorham Company, was hard pressed to meet the demand.

PETER MULLER-MONK

An image of the silverware designer, Peter Muller-Monk (b.1904-d.1967):

Image

Peter Muller-Monk, assistant professor of Industrial Design at Carnegie Institute of Technology, was born in Germany, where he graduated from the University of Berlin and the Academy of Fine and Applied Arts. When he came to the U. S. in 1926 he was the proud possessor of a Master's degree in the German Gold and Silversmith Guild. He first worked for Tiffany & Co., and then opened his own studio workshop for industrial design and metal work. Later, feeling that industrial design needed better training and appreciation, he began teaching at various places in New York. In the summer of 1935, he was appointed to his present position. Mr. Muller-Munk has exhibited in a number of the important museums throughout the country including the Metropolitan in New York.
