Mystery case - Deakin & Francis 1924

Post by bostonsilver »

Can anyone help with this - it's by Deakin & Francis 1924 - 6cm long, 4.4cm wide, 31.4 grams weight, just over one troy ounce (all silver) - gilt interior - I thought it was for matches but it has no strike plate - it tapers towards catch end, about half as thick as by hinge, I am a bit flummoxed - it's way too small to be for cigarettes - any help appreciated

This is to hold a matchbook, not loose matches. The matchbook of course has its own striker built in.
