A friend has sent me some images of a mysterious small fork:







The first thoughts were that this was a regular pickle fork that had lost one of its prones, but on close examination, there is no evidence of there having been any more than the two shown.

The fork is just 5" (128mm) in length, made by C.W. Fletcher & Son Ltd. and assayed at Sheffield in 1919.

Any thoughts on the original purpose of such a piece?

The most appropriate thing would seem to be a skewer for holding something small to be carved such as poultry on a small side tray for an individual. Then again, maybe boiled carrots?
