Is this a silver pocket watch?

Post by landau351 »

I have attached pictures of the markings that appear on the inside of the back cover and dust cover/
As this is not Assayed, is it solid silver or plated or ???

Does your watch have any other markings on the case or inner cover? On the surface of things it would appear to be 999.9 silver which is the highest grade you can get but it would need testing to make sure.
Best wishes, Mike.

Thanks Mike!
Apart from the engraved owners name and address, there are no other case-makers stamps/marks at all. Only the two already shown. Fine Silver is almost pure then? Excellent! Is there any place on the web to get details of the 999.9% Silver and Hallmarks?

It is somewhat unusual to have a solid silver watch that is above Sterling. This watch may have been a special gift as the owners name is also engraved on the watch movement and printed on to the face of the dial as well.

The fact that there is a name on the movement and the face suggests that it is the makers name, not the owners. May be worth checking with an expert.

Mike, OK, I shall see if I can identify the name in one of the Watchmakers books, thanks for your assistance.

Incidentally, the case would appear to be made by Walker and Hall.
Best wishes, Mike.
