Problem with Russian cup:(

Hello . I bought a Russian cup which was very dirty covered with patina. After cleaning the patina of dirt and there was such a thing as can be seen in the picture. What could it be? Varnish, paint, or something else? How to get rid of?

A remote diagnosis is always ungrateful.
I suspect this spots are caused by fruit or oleic acid (orange juice, fats, etc.) or sulfur compounds. If the silver is then stored uncleaned for an extended period of time, then it looks like this. As long as the surface is not attacked, it is no problem. A good silver polishing paste and some "elbow grease" will bring back the old splendor. Do not scratch - just polish!

Hi,
Make sure there is no colorless varnish (used to protect silver from elements).
Apply acetone or nail polish remover and then polish as suggested.
