Somebody can help ? small english silver box
Dear silver colleagues, may somebody help to define the age, manufacturer and for what all symbols stand on this bottom? On the top same F- Lion and a symbol as on the bottom. Believe it is WM the maker? It is a jewerly one or for what it would be used. (admin edit - see guidelines) Measure 8 cmx 4.5 cm x 4 cm. For me looks wonderful- fine repousse work, each side with different scenes inside and outside house life. If you need more pictures, would be a pleasure for me to add more. Thanks a lot ! regards- daniel- Sorry if image are not working, first time I try-hope its works. If not take the link, and sorry.

Thanks for answer! May I ask it now the crown from the german city or the maker one? what you mean with pseudo ? How old is the box? Not the english mark one are the oldest? and who make it? WM england or the "Crown" german one? I am an amateur and thanks to all for help.blakstone wrote:The bottom two marks - the crown and the crowned "G" - are pseudo hallmarks, probably those of Georg Roth of Hanau, Germany.
- Thanks a lot ! But may I ask who make the repousse work? WM from england ? and he bought the silver box without the repousse work from Germany? Or in which way this box was generated? Type of work which was done in Germany and which was done in England? Would interest me a lot to know how such a box life looks like with so different names and proveninece information. THANKS for all information. regards- danielmogxelissa wrote:Hi there. This makers mark WM looks very similar to the makers mark for William Moering (1892-1903) that is posted on the 'makers marks' for London page.
Cheers.
. Thanks Tom ! Only to understand right your answer. The box was made at Hanau and Moering imported it to UK. But you mean my box is a fake? not a genuine old silver box from the 1890's? or it is quite an old and collectable box? and was for jewelry or for what kind of use? Thanks a lot to helping me to understand it. It is a great Forum, gratulation at all here!admin wrote:Moehring was only an importer, the box was made completely and finished in Hanau. Hanau pseudo marks often include copies of genuine older marks. In this case, the maker adopted the old Goerlitz town mark as one of his pseudo marks.
