The R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., Wallingford, Conn., have become the exclusive agents of the Hartford Silver Plate Co., in Chicago. At their handsome salesrooms, 86 Wabash Ave., in that city, there is now on exhibition a large and varied line of unique World's Fair novelties from the factory of the Hartford Silver Plate Co., which promise to prove exceedingly popular. Among other things are smoking and writing sets, thermometers, jewel cases, pin cushions, trinket trays, card cases, toothpick holders, colognes, puff boxes, etc., etc , made up in natural objects such as sea shells, turkey legs, cob pipes, etc., on which in many cases a gold plate has been applied directly, by a patented process. The line should be seen by every buyer.

It is said that the Hartford Silver Plate Company have discovered a transparent enamel, which they are applying to their hollowware, which seems to offer complete protection against the tarnishing that has been such a perplexing element in the silverware business.

The Hartford Silver Plate Company.— C. P. Lindley, Western Manager; corner of Locust and Eighth streets. — The only house in the city or west of Chicago, dealing exclusively in silver and silver plate goods, is that conducted by Mr. C. P. Lindley, at the corner of Locust and Eighth streets. He represents The Hartford Silver Plate Co., which has its headquarters and factory at Hartford, Conn., with branches at New York, Philadelphia. Chicago and St. Louis, the two latter being in charge of Mr. Lindley. This company manufactures hollow ware, tea services, urns, epergnes, ice pitchers, cruets, fruit and cake baskets, etc.. in the richest and most artistic designs, and of the highest grade of quadruple plate. He also represents The Holmes and Edwards Silver Co.. of Bridgeport, Conn., the celebrated manufacturers of flat goods, such as spoons, forks, etc., and which are of the highest quality made. This company is also manufacturing spoons, forks, ladles, knives, etc, of "Mexican Silver 67," a new metal. These goods, which are sold at low prices, are superior to sterling silver or plated ware in point of non-tarnishing or resistance to atmospheric influences, and equal to solid silver for durability. Goods made of Mexican Silver can be kept clean with any silver polish, as there is no plate to wear off, being solid metal. This St. Louis branch, which occupies the main floor and basement, 30x100 feet, at the northeast corner of Locust and Eighth streets, was established in June, 1886, and has already built up a large and steadily increasing trade throughout the entire West and South. Mr. Lindley who has the supervision of this branch, is one of the oldest commercial travelers in the country, a gentleman of superior business attainments and highly esteemed in commercial circles.

The Hartford Silver Plate Co. Absorbed by the Barbour Silver Co.

Hartford, Conn., July 30,—The Hartford Silver Plate Co, have finally passed into the hands of the Barbour Silver Co. Arrangements for the consolidation have been going on for some time, but the deal was not consummated until last week.

John L. Dalgleish, secretary of the Barbour Silver Co., said that the owners had plans in view for enlarging the business of the combined concerns, but they have not yet been matured. For the present, both shops will be run according to the demands of the business, but it is intended later to consolidate the two plants.

The Wm. Rogers Mfg. Company, Barbour Bros. Co., and the Hartford Silver Plate Co., Hartford, all of whom have been running their factories full time during the spring months, will close down July 1, the usual time for a short rest. All the companies report a prosperous season. The trade has been pretty fair and the prospects are that this state of the affairs will continue.

St. Louis has no exclusive clock house. At present the Providence Jewelry Co. and the L. Bauman Jewelry Co. are selling clocks, but both of these houses carry a full stock of jewelers’ goods. There is room in this city for a distinctive clock house. The Holmes & Edwards’ Silver Plate Co. and the Hartford Silver Plate Co. have both made a success in silver plated goods, and there is no reason why a clock house would not prove profitable if properly managed.
