Looking for a good idea of the purpose of this bowl. It’s about the right size for a salt cauldron and maybe that’s what it is. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the comments. Fortunately, there’s no sign of corrosion from salt, so I take it that the piece was well taken care of.
