To me it seems to read the maker's mark
CM above 78 for
Cornelis
Monteban, registered in the city of Schoonhoven, 1843 till he died on 20-5-1880. He employed an engraver for some time (mechanical Rose Engine or ‘Decorative Lathe’ operator).
