Silver tobacco box, Amsterdam, 18th century, Picture? Maker?

Post by Vantlicht »

Silver tabaco box from the 18th century, Marked with the citymark of Amsterdam and the A of 1785? The image of fighting soldiers intrigued me, but I cannot find a similar painting of picture on the internet. Is there somebody who knows what is carved in this mother of pearl box? And I am looking for the Silversmith IT. Who knows more?

Thanks in advance!

These are fake/pseudo marks used by silversmiths in The Hague. According to K.A. Citroen, Valse Zilvermerken in Amsterdam;
IT imitated/pseudo mark of master Johannes II van der Toorn, 1777 (Voet, 's-Gravenhage 145) # 184. Pseudo standard mark, the Holland lion rampant # 639. Pseudo town mark Amsterdam (1730) # 515. Pseudo The Hague year letter of 1772 # 6.
Probably made in the workshop of van der Beek
