John Robins, London?

Post by meyrink »

Have a nice holiday season. I'd like to ask you to identify a presumably British hallmark. These are the letters I dot R, lion passant, duty mark and the letter D with crown. It could be John Robins from London, but the date letter doesn't fit in its shape...

Thank you very much

This is a Sheffield mark. On smaller pieces of silver between 1780 and 1852 the Sheffield crown mark and the date letter are combined into a single punch. This D is 1812/13 and the maker (assuming it is IR) is Joseph Rodgers & Son. However in your picture it looks more like IP, in which case it is the mark of John Peacock and George Austin.
