Old Italian Ladle - Hallmarks DG DG

Post by ShinySpoon »

Hello everyone,

I hope someone can help me with this intriguing ladle. It was purchased in the far south of mainland Italy (Gioia Tauro), though I’m not sure if that helps in identifying the maker.

As you can see, the only hallmarks present are two identical "DG" stamps. I’m wondering if these could be examples of the so-called Duty Dodger hallmarks.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all in advance.

Best regards,
David

Yes, this ladle is really intriguing.
I have never seen such a peculiar attachment of the bowl to the handle before.
I don't understand what could make one think of duty dodging.
It goes without saying that identifying a silversmith by his initials alone is almost impossible.
Nice item.
