
They were made by the same silversmith, Francesco Bagnara, between 1817 and 1840, for the same client G.Z., but once turned upside down, you can immediately see a notable difference in the workmanship and hammering.

The palmette decoration on the edge is also noticeably different.

At this point I wonder what technique Mr. Bagnara used to make these plates. Did he work freehand without the help of any mold? How is it possible to make the upper surface so smooth? Why is the hammering of the two plates so different? Is it possible that the palmettes were also made with the repoussé technique without the help of a mold? Can anyone give me detailed information about this?
