Identify hallmark on possibly antique, possibly Spanish crucifix

Post by Lev1athan »

Hello:

Am researching the hollow cast, silver crucifix shown here.

To the top of the proper left shoulder are two small (a little less than 1/8" wide) impressed marks. As shown these have a lozenge shape containing two letters - an M and a P. I believe these are thhe same mark. Note that the lower one is incomplete and the top mark may have been added to correct this.

My hope, of course, is to identify these marks and with this the origins of this object. It is, also of course that therse are spurious marks. Will appreciate any insights.
