London pocket watch marks

Post by SimnKaff »

Hi,
I'm trying to identify the marks on a pocket watch. I think it's London made, but may have been Sheffield. After searching this site, I'm not sure about the location as I can't (or haven't quickly) find the maker's mark amongst those listed. I'd be grateful for help identifying this please.

Many thanks for anything you can tell me about this.

Your watch case has a Chester hallmark with the date letter G for the assay year 1825/26. The maker's mark TE over HF is the mark of Timothy Ellison & Henry Fishwick of 5 Tarleton Street, Liverpool. It is more than likely then that the watch itself is the product of a North-West England watchmaker. Is the movement signed?

I have moved your post into the Chester section.

Thank you so much for your help. I did wonder whether it might be Chester but couldn't find the TEHF mark amongst the Chester makers listed on this site and the city mark is a little unclear to me in the image I've got. I've found it now on the silvermakersmarks website.

I don't believe the movement is signed at all, the watch belongs to my brother-in-law. Hopefully what you've given me is enough information. It's certainly better than I had managed to work out for myself.
