Silver Medal

Hello
Where do I start please to identify a small silver Medal which has JMCo stamped on the back along with Hibernia, the crowned harp and another mark which I cant quite see. It looks a bit like the pound symbol - £
On the front is a laurel wreath, a harp, a Celtic design and what looks like either crossed sewing needles or maybe swords. Could even be an open pair of scissors. Most likely needles I think.
I have a suspicion it may be a medal awarded at a feis but that's just a gut feeling.
I'm sorry that is all very vague!!
Thank you for any assistance
Harry

Hi Trev
Thank you very much for your response. Please excuse my slow reply. I hope that I didnt breach any etiquette with my post.
I have never used Postimages before so hopefully I have followed your directions accurately.
Sorry for the poor quality image of the Hallmarks. I cant get a better picture with my sad little phone !!
I look forward to hearing from you.

Your fob medal has a Dublin sterling silver hallmark. The symbol which you couldn't make out is the date letter X in gothic-style lettering. This is the code for the assay year 1939/40. The maker's/sponsor's mark JMCo is that of the somewhat unimaginatively named Jewellery & Metal Manufacturing Co Ltd.

Thank you very much Phil. So do you know is it a purely decorative medal or would it have been awarded for some feat?

From the laurel wreath decoration it looks as if it was made with the intention of being awarded but without any sort of personal engraving your question cannot be answered.

I note similar medals online with the same designs attributed to Irish Dancing.

Thanks again. That was actually my first assumption. I live in an area with strong ties to The Glens Feis and Irish Dancing was and is a big part of that
