Spoon with lots of marks, none appear to identify maker!

Post by Gregz »

I have an Old English pattern spoon c30cm long, electroplate, which has a number of marks commonly seen but are all generic and do nothing to identify the maker, at least not to me. The only useful one appears to be the Crown which would date it as pre-1895 when use on silverplate was banned.

Only two aspects of the spoon appear to be at all helpful and there may be someone out there that has seen them before
1. At the base of the bowl there is a raised area in the shape of a shield, photo attached
2. On the terminal there is the name Fredrik engraved, the spelling may be a clue as I believe that the spoon is of English origin and that would not be a common spelling in England. Due to the little provenance I have the spoon spent some time in Malta so it is possible it was manufactured there (I don't even know if there is plate manufacture in Malta)

Any help in identifying the maker or narrowing down the date of production would be much appreciated.
