Brandybowl, Rotterdam, Maker?
Brandybowl, Rotterdam, Maker?
Silver brandybowl, probably Rotterdam. Could it be Gerard Vinck or Jacob Bloemaart? Thanks in advance for checking.

Re: Brandybowl, Rotterdam, Maker?
Brandy bowl, eight-lobed body with chased tendril ornaments at the ribs. Attached cast ears in the shape of two lions holding a coat of arms.

Vague and half city mark of Rotterdam, we see a crown but below it the supposed four walking lions are not clearly visible. Town mark for Rotterdam; 4 lions passant facing left in four quarters above vertical bar in a crowned shield.

The year letter on de brandy bowl Roman capital F in a lobed shield, here only half of it.

The presence of the Dutch lion, the provincial standard mark used from 1663 until 1807 for silver 934/1000, can be of further assistance.
The book of N. I. Schadee Silver Treasures three centuries of Rotterdam silver, shows most of the year letters used by the Rotterdam guild
The capital year letters E and F for for 1667 and 1668
The year letters e and f for 1691 and 1692

The year letter F of 1716 is an italic capital letter.

The year letters capital E and F for 1739 and 1740

Unfortunately, the date letter capital F of 1740 is not shown.
The year letters F of 1764 and 1788 are both excluded, they do not match.

The above shown year letter F on the brandy bowl is probably for 1740
The ears of the bowl are marked to with what looks like an assayers grove, and the town mark of Rotterdam, including the Dutch lion.

The maker's mark on the brandy bowl is not of Gerard Vinck, registered 1685-1722, bird on branch. Nor for Jacob Bloemerwaart, registered 1723-1729, a bird. Unfortunately, this maker's mark so far for me unknown.
