Hi, all - so far as I know, CB&S is a Sheffield makers mark between 1850s and 1960s. However, the best match of the date mark is Sheffield 1773. My guess is that the date mark is correct and the piece may have originally been modified in the Victorian era, at which point the CB&S was added. Would welcome any thoughts; this mystery is tickling me. Thanks, Jill

Hi Jill,

It was made in 1973 by Cooper Bros and Sons. These items were originally called meat skewers, but now are often used as letter openers.
