I bought this little bowl, 8 cm diameter in a german antics shop. I found the stamps in the dutch "area", y for 1857 and so on, but not the makers stamp Nr 5 in the picture, nor the stamp Nr 3. Is this the stamp of an elderman or some office? Who can help? Thank you in advance - wolfgang
Wow! Such a detailed photo demands a detailed response.
Mark 1: the assay office mark; A = Amsterdam
Mark 2: the mark for first standard (.934) silver, in use 1814-1953
Mark 3: the mark of the firm of A. Bonebakker & Zoon
Mark 4: the year letter, Y = 1858
Mark 5: the maker's mark of Pieter Pieterse, in use 1846-1870
I should mention that Pieter Pieterse was the director of A. Bonebakker & Zoon from 1855 to 1870.

Hi blakstone, thank you so much for this prompt and precise answer, its always a pleasure to know something about men "who done it". But I have another question: what was this item used for? Feeding little children or feeding older children with "schnaps"? Thanks for for your appreciating the quality of the photo - its my profession...
kind regards wolfgang

I try to insert the pic again in the original message, as to show what we are talking about.
