Pocket Watch Chester 1896 - advice sort after

Firstly, this is my first post so apologies for the poor quality of pics and lack of forum etiquette.

I have a pocket watch and I'm having a few problems finding out its history.

It has the lion mark, it has the Chester shield mark and the letter 'N', hopefully correctly identified as 1896 due to the shape of the cartouche. However, it has no maker's mark. But it does have 'CNE' stamped twice on two of the covers. I believe this to be for the Canadian National Exhibition.

If this is the case what was a watch made in Chester doing in Canada? Would it mean that this watch is more likely to be silverplate and/or I have got my analysis totally wrong?

As stated I am a complete novice and surprised I have found out as much as I have. If anyone has further thoughts on this they would all be greatly appreciated.

Are there any marks on the loop connected to the winder?

Hi,
Case makers often used incuse letter marks, perhaps CNE is the maker.
