Need Help Identifying Hallmarks

Post by tristate »

These hallmarks are found on an antique compact. The top image is stamped in the base of the piece while the second image is on the rim of the lid. I am not sure which country and I cannot locate the PHV name anywhere. Any ideas where I should look?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Kathy,

Not antique yet I'm afraid.

The marks are London import marks for 1927. The importer was P.H. Vogel, see: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... gel#p97704

Hi Kathy,

Unless there are any other marks, then no, we will not know the origin. An image of the whole item may offer a clue to someone who may recognise the style/fashion.

So, Trev, the item was made elsewhere and imported to London? What does the PHV (Vogel) company have to do with that? Were they the ones who imported it? Did they do anything to the piece to finish it off? Here is a picture of the item:

Yes, Vogel were the importers. I'm sure they would have imported as is, perhaps from Germany.
