18K Cartier Watch Gold London Hallmarks

Hi, I have some questions about the hallmarks on my cartier watch. The movement is a Cartier stamped Felsa 22, which dates to the 1960s. The hallmarks appear to be london, I see the 18 and 750 look to be an import mark? and the h looks like it dates to 1963 that’s about as far as i got. I saw some old auction listings for 18k similarly marked “Delano” watches but not much info on those. No clue if LS is a makers mark or who it would be.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The "maker's" mark on British hallmarks is more correctly called the sponsor's mark and is the mark of whoever sent the piece for assay. For imported pieces such as your watch the sponsor is normally also the importer. The LS is the mark of Hernu, Peron & Stockwell Ltd, gold & silver importers of Finsbury Street, London. LS are the initials of Lionel George Stockwell.

I agree that the date letter, although a little unclear, is most probably 1963/64.

Thank you very much how interesting! I appreciate your help as I would not have been able to discover this myself.

I was also wondering do you happen to know what this “key” shape with a 5 is on the back of the case? or the geneve mark on the back? I suppose these may be more related to watchmakers mark rather than a hallmark.

The key mark is a Geneva "Poinçon de Maître" mark. The system is explained here. The number 5 is associated with Georges Croisier whose initials appear on the triangular Geneva mark.

Amazing thank you very much for the insight. Now does that mean that every piece with the “5” key was produced by Georges Croisier? For example, I see that some famous Patek Philippe cases retain the same mark; does that mean our Cartier case was produced by the same gentleman or group of case makers?
