I have this excellent German silver bowl. It measures 14"x11" and is footed. It is very well crafted. My problem is that I always have a bit of trouble determining Augsburg made items from Hanau. Can anyone here shed some light for me? According to the silver marks reference pages on this site it looks like Augsburg, however I have read that Augsburg marks were very commonly used by Hanau silversmiths to mark their items that were made in older styles. Thank you so much for any help you may offer.
Definitely Hanau. My own study of Hanau pseudo-marks has led me to attribute these marks to Storck & Sinsheimer, founded in 1874 and active until at least the mid-1920s. Your piece is probably from later end of that range.
Yes, this absolutely helps. Thank you so much for the info. I was pretty sure it was Hanau, but I just wanted some confirmation. Thanks for the maker as well. I appreciate your help.
