Help with hallmark on Boer War Charm

Post by camirv »

Can someone help me with the identification of the hallmarks on this piece please. The maker's mark, which is a little hard to see in the photo, reads G.E.W . The hallmarks themselves are of an anchor, the letter "Z", and the lion. There are two photos, one on each side of the charm, depicting Boer War military commanders. Given the date of the Boer War was 1900, I'm assuming the hallmarks place it shortly after that. I have trouble with the fonts of the date marks, so would appreciate the help. Image[/img]

Your piece has the hallmarks for sterling silver, Birmingham and the date letter for 1899. The maker G.E.W is G E Walton Ltd wholesale and later manufacturing jewellers who traded from 52/54 Hylton Street, Birmingham.

Regards and good wishes for 2006.
