sterling on bronze urn

Post by latresha starling »

i have an urn that i picked up at a second hand shop, i guess you'd call it an urn, it is about 3 1/2 inches tall, i don't know if you will be able to read what it says on the mark, but i will transcribe it for you just in case

at the top it says 8o84A in the middle it has kind of a makers mark i think, inside of a diamond it has the letters A then an H on top of an M then an S
now, along the top right side of the diamond are numbers that look handmade 3394 on the bottom it says STERLING ON BRONZE PAT AUG 2712 there is a picture of an iris on the front of the urn, i don't know anything about it, have tried and failed to find anything out, i would like to know what it is, who the maker is thanks, latresha starling

Sounds like a small vase by the Heintz Art Metal Shop of Buffalo, NY, in business from about 1906-30.

Just google "heintz art metal bronze" and lots of information will come up, there are usually several pieces on that large west coast based auction site, and your local library or bookstore might have Kevin McConnell's book, "Heintz Art Metal". Your description of the mark and the patent date are enough that I'm sure it's Heintz.
