Information needed on Nilsson mark.

This piece is marked on back of pendant and on inside of bail. Back of pendant is marked with the 3 crowns used by Swedish silversmiths, the name NILSSON in block, and 925. The inner bail is marked "NILSSON" "925" & "14K" on three lines. Thick wire overlaying on the bail is gold. I was not able to capture the inner bail mark in a photo due to where it's located. It exudes quality of material and workmanship.

I'm hoping someone can clarify conflicting information I've gathered while researching the mark(s) of Wiwen NILSSON. Someone has stated on another silver forum, regarding another piece of jewelry, that they did not think the mark which is the same as on the photo I'm submitting, was used by Wiwen Nilsson because it is not in script. However a research book on sterling silver jewelry states that during his career, Wiwen Nilsson also used a mark in block letters, in addition to his more familiar scripted mark. I can find no other Scandinavian silversmith with the exact same spelling of the name N I L S S O N (except for A. Nilsson, an affiliate of Wiwen Nilsson). This makes me wonder if this is in fact, a mark used by Wiwen Nilsson. I'd like to know the forum's opinion please, or if anyone can provide more information regarding the mark NILSSON in block letters. TIA.

Hello to all, and hope your holiday season was great!
I just want to bump this up because I'm still trying to identify this mark. Any help, even vague clues to follow, would be much appreciated, before I abandon my efforts. Since I posted the topic, I've looked at all of the work by Wiwen Nilsson that I could find on the internet and have tentatively concluded that my piece appears unrelated. I'm still at square 1, in my effort to identify the mark. I did come across a Georg Nilsson. I'm not sure if Georg Nilsson created jewelry or not. When I goggled the name Nilsson on this forum, I learned in another thread that he worked with Georg Jensen, but the reference was to a silverplate -- the Danish Gero mark. I wonder if anyone knows the mark of Georg Jensen and can compare it with the Nilssen mark on this pendant? Thank you.

Also - am I posting in the correct category?

Hi ~ Have seen a few similar pieces to yours and suspected mid 20th century or later American, perhaps a studio jeweler of Swedish ancestry using the three-crowns as a nod to their heritage, your mark is not the three-crowns/cat's paw that appears on Swedish silver. Can't say that I've ever seen a Wiwen Nilsson piece that didn't bear proper Swedish hallmarks (believe he continued to use the registered "AN" maker's mark of his father, Anders). Don't have access to my references at the moment, but believe that Georg Nilsson was a Dane who trained and worked at Jensen, can't recall his being noted as one of the designers there (your mark has nothing to do with Georg Jensen).

There is a Washington jewelry maker named Isidro Nilsson, but don't necessarily see a connection to your piece, and his current mark is a simple "I.G. Nilsson".

Thanks so much Cheryl. After posting the first message, I devoted time to examining the 3-crown marks from Sweden. One admirable thing is that so much identifying information is contained in such a relatively small space. Clearly this mark is atypical. Your comment regarding the use of this 3-crown mark as a nod to the maker's heritage, makes so much sense. I won't be looking so far afield in my effort to identify the Nilssen of my piece. Thanks again for your insightful reply.

If you don't mind, will you please tell me how you got the USPPTO to produce the desired information? I tried entering the name Nilsson as both inventor and assignee, selected from the drop-down menu of choices, but got only two unrelated results. I'm so curious to know how you did it. TIA

I take all the shortcuts that I can conceive. This is probably a little too involved, and I'm not the best writer, but if you are determined, it might help.

I had looked for Nilsson on its own without success, but while searching a crown mark, your mark came up. I think the main shortcut I use is to look at images only most of the time instead going back and forth between the lists and images.

Thanks for sharing your USPTO search method, silverly. I'm in the "truly amazed" stage but will wrap my mind around your write and play with it for awhile to see if any lights of discovery go on, or even flicker a bit (smile).
