Sinclair Weeks, Jr., has been elected a vice-president of Reed & Barton Silversmiths of Taunton, Mass. He has been a director of the 138-year-old silverware firm. Weeks was associated with the United Carr Fastener Co. from 1947 until this year.

Leslie Phillips, a member of the cutlery department of Reed & Barton Silversmiths in Taunton, Mass., has been awarded a Citation for Christian Service by the Massachusetts Council of Churches.

A patent has been granted to Charles A. Bennett, of Taunton, Mass., on a handle for spoons, forks and similar articles. He has assigned it to the Reed & Barton Corporation.

Reed & Barton Silversmiths announced the retirement of Helen G. McCarthy, New York office manager, and comptroller William F. C. Maule. Both have been with the firm since 1928.

At the annual meeting of the stockholders of the Reed & Barton Corporation, Taunton, Mass., held last week, George Brabrook, the last remaining partner of the firm, was dropped from the board of directors and from the treasurership. The Silverware Stocks Co., owners of nearly one-half of the stock, voted to retain Mr. Brabrook in his old position, which he had held so long, but the Reed interests, held by the heirs of his former partner, Henry G. Reed, voted for his retirement Mr. Brabrook has been the active head of the corporation for nearly 50 years. The directors chosen were William B. H. Dowse, Newton; Mark Anthony, Taunton, and George A. Holmes. Mr. Dowse was elected president and treasurer. Mark Anthony, a former employe of the Gorham Co., was re-elected as clerk.

Charles E. Hodges
Boston, April 20.—Charles E. Hodges, for many years a salesman for the Reed & Barton Corp., of Taunton and later for the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., died April 16 at Glenside, Pa. He was well known in Boston among the trade.
Deceased leaves besides his widow, three daughters, one son, a sister and seven grandchildren.

The design division of Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, in cooperation with Reed & Barton Silversmiths, presented an exhibit, “Silver Design Competition in Italy,” at the Metropolitan Boston Arts Center Oct. 14-Nov. 9.

William T. Hurley, Jr., vice-president for sales of Reed & Barton, has been named to the firm’s board of directors. He has been with Reed & Barton since 1935. Sinclair Weeks. Jr.. has also been elected to the board of directors of the Taunton, Mass., silver firm. Weeks, a 1945 graduate of Harvard College, is executive assistant to the president of United-Carr Fastener Corp.

James H. Quigley died at the Morton Hospital, Taunton, last month after an illness of several months. He had been associated with the Reed & Barton Co. for the past 20 years.

The Reed & Barton Corp. sales meeting for representatives calling on the trade in the Middle West, South West and Pacific Coast territories was held at the Palmer House in Chicago, on Feb. 10, 11 and 12. The conferences were under the direction of J. J. Shea, Chicago manager, and Col. Arthur Ashworth, vice-president in charge of plant; Joseph H. Martin, vice-president in charge of sales, and his assistant, Aurelle LaFrance. The principal discussions were on the promotion of their new sterling pattern, Georgian Rose.

Reed & Barton Announce Third Annual Contest
Reed & Barton Corp., Taunton, Mass., has announced plans for its third annual “Sterling-for-Graduation” contest.
Aimed at senior high school girls across the country, it is designed to create interest in sterling flatware by bringing graduating girls into dealers’ stores to register pattern choices, and try for one of the 1,000 prizes being offered.
Reed & Barton provides an attractive “Hope Chest” display, plus a listing in the contest announcement ad in the May issue of Seventeen magazine, free of charge to all dealers who participate in the contest.
