Hi all, i have got a pocket watch case that i am trying to identify but some confusion as to its age and other markings.
I have found out that its a piece from Chester (i hope) and i have 2 possible ages for it: 1762 or 1875 or i could be totally wrong!
but i have read that if its dated before 1890 it should have the duty mark; should all pieces have the mark?
Also what does the number 14906 refer too?
What does the E.L 2 mean? i done some research and it maybe the mark of Emmanuel Levy but unsure if this is true.....
Alot of questions but i would appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

Welcome to the Forum.
You are correct, it is Chester and the year is 1875, watchcases at this time were exempt from Duty, so no Duty mark required.
14906 would just be a serial number or a pattern number, EL is probably the watchcase maker, but is unknown to me.

He entered this incuse cut E.L mark in Chester March 7, 1873.

the number 14906 refers to the case - all sections of the case should have the same number.
