Hi dognose
Thanks for the links ...the HM stands for H. Matthews but I am not sure about the date ...what date do you think it may be?
Help much appreciated

Hi Buffer,
That would be 1903.
Henry Matthews entered his mark at the Birmingham Assay Office in 1893.

Hi,
Forgot to add, the design on the back is taken from Sir Joshua Reynolds painting Angel's heads' painted in 1787.

Thanks very much ....on the other side is a slightly damaged mirror. Unfortunately I don't have the pendant's chain. Would this be a particularly rare item do you think?

Don't you think that it may be a letter A rather than a D?

It looks like a 'd' to me.
I think this was a popular design at the turn of the century.
