Christening Cup

Post by HariVoy »

Hello

I have just joined this great forum although I have been looking at your main site for a while! It's fabulous!

Could you please help identifying this christening cup which I will give to my Goddaughter?

It was bought at a fair and I can't identify the marks as they don't look at all familiar, and also being worn out.

I hope you experts might be able to shed some light on it!

Many thanks,
Best wishes
H

Here is the whole thing.

Not really a "mystery object" - the marks belong to the Indian company Cooke & Kelvey: http://www.925-1000.com/AngloIndian_01.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hey thanks very much for the prompt reply!

Where would I look in ordet to ascertain its age and silver content? Or am I safe to assume it's 925 quality?

Again I have looked online and can't find much information on Indian silver...

Best wishes

Hi,

Cooke & Kelvey had branches at Calcutta, Simla and London. They were established in 1859 and were in business until at least the 1930's.

As to the silver content, I would say it is very likely to be around the 925/1000 standard.
