Post by tux »

Help wanted Please I have this pocket watch from Birmingham, but I cannot find the same year-mark K. (#1)
#2 Howcome they made the inside in London? Marked: B Tupling 191-Strand London.

Yet a whole other question: Is every English Hallmark (Lion) sterling (925)?
You see different variaties of the hallmark, but is there also 835 and 800 English silver?

All help much appreaceated, thanks!

Hello.

Believe that's JN for Jules Nordmann, 13 Hatton Garden, London.
He entered this mark at Birmingham on February 8, 1882.
It's not unusual for London watch case makers to enter marks at Chester and Birmingham.

I read the "k" date mark as 1884.
Watch cases were exempt from duty.

A British Lion passant always indicates sterling (.925) silver.

Thanks!
So there is no British 800 or 835 silver?
