Maker's Mark J.S

Post by markbham »

I recently purchased a silver pocket watch chain as a present for my sister. I would like to be able to tell her something about it's origin, but without any specific knowledge I cannot make a lot of the hallmarks. The T bar has a lion passant and a letter u on the one side and what looks like a ship to me on the other side. I couldn't find an assay mark anywhere. The maker's mark is J.S with a star next to it. Does anybody know who that maker is and how old the chain is?

Thanks

Mark

That's probably the mark of James Slater, London, late 1800's.
