It is an orange peeler. Here is a similar one in the same size.

Have had some huge oranges before, but can't imagine any large enough that a ten inch long item could be used as a peeler (not to mention the "extremely sharp serrated edge"). Looks to me more like maybe a fancy pizza knife, or something to cut another type of baked goods...

If your item has a 6" handle and is 10" long, suggesting a 4" blade, then it is not an orange peeler. Orange peelers like the one shown are typically in the area of 5"- 6" overall (easily held in the hand) - the 'hook' is used to score through the peel and the small rounded 'blade' aids in removing the peel and any excess pith.

Dear all
I was toady in a second hand shop, and what did I see? An item in similar shape and similar length. On the blade is written "PIZZA". So now we know what the mistery item is: Cheryl is right, it is a pizza knife.

Hello, according to an old Salm catalogue the knife shown at the top of this post is a grapefruit knife. Best wishes, Bahner

Thank you, Bahner! Guessing that the blade might be used to separate the sections of a halved grapefruit so that they can be more easily removed with a spoon... Brings to mind an odd old grapefruit knife my Mom has, very seldom used because it really doesn't work particularly well, it has made a good 'what-is-it?' over the years.
