Hi, my first post here so apologies if sth is wrong with it.
I found this spoon today on the beach (Edinburgh Granton) and spent the last 3 hours trying to learn more about it but with little results. From the shape it looks like Georgian Irish Silver but marks are really hard to identify. Any help much appreciated.

Looks like I'm seeing the letters EP with a device over them (crown?). If so, this is electroplate. Does it attract to a magnet?

No it doesn't attract to a magnet

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, this would be, or was once, electro plated. The marks are very eroded now, but they may one of the several used by Joseph Gilbert of Birmingham.

Hello! I feel a bit silly responding since I'm probably the least educated on this topic in the entire forum but I thought you might want to take a look at another possibility just for fun. The Briddon Brothers mark looked like it might be quite similar but you would certainly have the best opinion on that! At any rate, congratulations on the great find and best of luck on all future beachcombing efforts!
Cheers!
Melanie

Hi Melanie,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never feel silly about responding, a fresh pair of eyes looking at something is often the answer to the problem.

Thank you, Trev!
I have to admit I've been lurking in these forums for awhile now....searching for answers of my own. I'm a bit wonky for all things "old" and the stories behind them. I suppose I've actually started a small collection of my own....mostly watches, fobs (especially compasses!) and various types of jewelry., but not intentionally. It just sort of happened! Although convincing my husband it was "unintentional" is another matter entirely!
Now that I've broken the ice and been so kindly welcomed, I'm sure I'll be picking the brains of all the wise and knowledgeable folks who share that knowledge so graciously here!
Thanks again and have a wonderful week!
Kind Regards,
Melanie
