Georg Jensen Butterfly Brooch

Post by mhgcgolfclub »

I have had this brooch for a couple of years, I would just like to find out a date ,I have been told its about the 1950's maybe early 60's, I always wondered way it was the dark colour, took it into a jewlers and was told it was anodize and would have been done when made, would this brooch having been anodize be more or less desirable than a normal silve one or would there be no difference

You should be able to date the brooch by the London import marks shown in your last picture (it's upside down), the sponsor mark is Jensen's, the date letter is unclear on my monitor (looks like it might be 1980). The #283 brooch was designed in 1942 by Arno Malinowski and is still in production. As for the finish, "anodized" is a term I usually associate with aluminum. This piece may have been patinated, as to whether it's original or not, don't know, can't say I've run across it before. You might want to contact someone that specializes in Jensen jewelry.
