I have this piece, I think it may be some kind of charm. It would be a large charm it measures 2 3/4" by 2 1/4". The marks on the back are hard to read but I think it is F W(underlined) Coppin??? and 800? and another mark I can not make out at all. I have had it for a while and aquired it in a lot of costume jewelry, that is why I am guessing it could be some type of charm. I apologize if I am posting to the wrong forum, but I am so unsure of this piece, I have no idea what other forum would be appropriate. Thank you in advance for any information, even if it is only what the piece is and not the maker. Lynn Stanley
Hi, Lynn, I have a large pendant by the same maker. It is marked "F LLI COPPINI" where the LLI is underlined. Also marked 800, MADE IN ITALY and the maker mark like yours. I also have a St. George and the Dragon pin by this maker. The pendant looks like Peruzzi jewelry. Both pieces are well made. Yours is very unusual looking - eerie! Does it have a place for a jump ring or bail?
I just did a little digging on the web. I think it means "Brothers Coppini" - "Fratelli Coppini" in Italian. It looks like there is a jewelry store in Italy by them, these pieces may be older ones, maybe the business has been in the family for a while. An eBay search found other silver by them and also some pieces for the Franklin Mint. There is a fratellicoppini.com but seems to be just a fancy page advertising the store.
