Help needed please in identifying an old pair of candlesticks

Hello all, I am trying to trace the history of a pair of candlesticks that have been rolling around various family cupboards for the past eighty-odd years. They were supposedly gifted to my grandfather for his services during WW2, when he was working on either Malta or Cyprus in the late 1940s/early 1950s. There is a sparsity of stamps on the items which has made identification difficult so far, and the generally poor workmanship makes me wonder if they are cheap knock-offs that were locally produced at the time.
Both have only three marks on the base rims - a capital letter "F" in an escutcheon outline, the numerals "1848" and the initials "SACA" in a box shape with 'SA' positioned above 'CA'.
Any help in identifying who may have made/imported these items at the time would be very much appreciated. TIA

I presume it is the Maltese goldsmith Saverio Cannataci

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your candlesticks are Maltese, made of silver and made by Saverio Cannataci in 1848. He become a silversmith in 1806 and held the title 'Consul for Silversmiths' in 1848.

Wonderful find!

Many thanks to the hive mind for the prompt responses. I will have to do some further investigating of the works of Saverio Cannataci out of Malta:-)
