Please help with confirming details and makers mark

Hi everyone

I just purchased a locket that I believe to 1887 Birmingham silver

I am coming stuck at the makers mark. I have zoomed in and taken the best photo I can, and reviewed with the naked eye. I have spent hours trying online researching but just cannot find anything.

I believe the makers mark is J&FE.

I am extremely new to this, I purchased this as a future heirloom for my own family (I have a new baby daughter).

Has anyone seen this makers mark before? Please let me know also if you think I have the date or any other details incorrect.

Thank you so much

I can confirm that the hallmark is Birmingham 1887.

I believe that the maker's/sponsor's mark has been struck at least a couple of times and that it is actually just JF for James Fenton. There also seems to me to be a possibility that the JF has been overstruck on another mark, possibly FE. I have previously seen a Birmingham FE mark, unfortunately unidentified, with an 1887 hallmark.
