Los Angeles County Museum of Art Placide Poussielgue-Rusand Gilt Silver Chalice with Enamel & Gemstones Paris c.1855

Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824-1889), was a gold & silversmith in Paris. He is known mainly for his liturgical objects: chalices, ciborium, patens, monstrances and was also the maker of the high altar of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Paris and the Crown of Light in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris. He also worked for the Cathedral of Notre-Dame d'Amiens where he made particularly great bronze altar in the chapel of the Sacred Heart, and the reliquary of the head of John the Baptist. During his lifetime he received the title of "Manufacturer to the Holy Father the Pope." Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824-1889), est un orfèvre parisien. Il est connu surtout pour ses objets liturgiques : calices, ciboires, patènes, ostensoirs. Il est aussi l'auteur du maître-autel de l'église de la Sainte-Trinité de Paris et de la couronne de lumière de la Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. Il travailla aussi pour la Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens où il réalisa notamment le superbe autel en bronze de la chapelle du Sacré-Coeur, ainsi que le reliquaire du chef de saint Jean-Baptiste. De son vivant il reçut le titre de " Fabricant du saint Père le Pape ".
