Real or fake? cameo (completely new to silver)

Post by Dave1 »

Can someone please help me tell if this is a real silver piece or is it a fake?
I have researched as far as I can and have found the anchor (Birmingham?)
The lion passant?(Sterling 925)? Though this is very hard to distinguish.
The date letter appears to be a K or an X?
The makers mark in a box PGB? or maybe PEB?
Can you also tell me what all the brown marks are on the back of the piece?
Pleae click thumbnails for larger pictures.

Thankyou for absolutely any help you can give.
I do not mind if it is a fake, it may even help others to identify fakes they may come across in the future.
This was found amongst some old jewellery of my mothers who has passed away over 8 years ago now, she wasnt ever able to afford to buy real jewellery and if this is a real silver piece I can only assume that it was bought from a junk shop or something similar.
Thankyou,

Hi Dave, The silver looks real enough to me, you are correct, Birmingham and it appears to be 1984, hope this helps, regards Trev.

Trev,
Thankyou so much for the info, I am pleased that it is confirmed as real silver and made in Birmingham.
Do you have any idea regarding the maker? Could it be PC.B with the dot halfway up in the centre between the letters?
If I can identify the maker would that help regarding the date of this piece?
I had the feeling it was older than 1984. Would it have been made to look older?
Anyone else have any ideas regarding this?
Thankyou all,
Dave.
PS: I am fascinated by this site, so interesting to see all the knowledge being shared here.

Confirm 1984 as the assay date. Don't know who the maker is, but to my eye, looks like the maker would be P.E.B?

Its certainly a revival style piece.
