Help With maker, Rotherhams pocket watch, 1909

Post by mattcouper »

Hello, I've recently had my grandfathers pocket watch fixed and have worked out its Rotherhams, Birmingham-made, 1909, but cant find the makers mark in the database. The initials are JR in a diamond shape. Any clues?...is it simply John Rotherham?
Thanks in advance.

Hello. They did make cases for their own movements.
That is one of their marks.

John Rotherham Sr. passed away around 1841.
John Rotherham Jr. managed the company almost up to his death in 1905 at the age of 67.
The firm was converted into a public (Limited) campany in 1912.
Stopped production in 1973.
